2023 salary increment percentage finally determined?-All the latest updates

Has the government settled on increasing public sector workers’ salaries by 21% or 60% in 2023? Is this a mere rumour or authentic?

According to information obtained by Educandghana.net, the teams or organizations involved have not completed their 2023 wage discussions, hence no definitive percentage of increase has been determined.

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) reports that the most recent meeting, which took place on November 30, 2022, ended without a resolution and was postponed indefinitely. Notably, this conference marked the fifth time that negotiations for the specified percentage had taken place.

In the previous meetings, the government’s plan for the basic salary increase in 2023 changed from 8% to 10% to 12% to 15%. In the most recent meeting, the government’s team presented a 3% increase to the proposal, bringing it from 15% to 18%. They cited the 18.9% expected inflation rate for 2023 as their justification.

Clarification on the 21% Base Pay increment in 2023 in Circulation

The government MAY agree to raise compensation for public sector employees by at least 21% in 2023, but as of right now, there is no official document from the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations (MELR) or the FWSC to support this claim. This indicates that the 21 percent increment in base pay circulating on various media platforms must be disregarded.

Additionally, the basic pay % can only be decided following open negotiations with organized labor unions; at the moment, those negotiations are on indefinite hold. When negotiations discussions are suspended, how can the 21% salary rise percentage be determined?

With the information above, Educand Ghana Network can categorically state that no approved percentage for pay in 2023 has been made.

However, let’s keep the hope alive as there may be something greater in the pipeline. Stay tuned for more updates!!
