BUSTED: WAEC reveals top social media groups that promote WASSCE leaks, set to prosecute operatives
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has cautioned students to stay away from social media especially rogue websites, Whatsapp and Telegram platforms which seek to leak question papers to final year students writing the 2021 WASSCE.
According to a press briefing issued by the council on Septemebr 15th 2021, it has indicated that the activities of social media cartels i.e rogue websites, Whatsapp, and Telegram groups are in full force with several versions of the questions being circulated on social media platforms. Some of the groups that were listed by WAEC include Ruth, Jerusalema, Eminent Link, Mr. Robert, Succes Room, Mr. IUPAC, Brotherhood and WAEC Secret Helper.
The council has however indicated that an investigative team is tracking these websites, whatsapp and telegram groups and their preliminary findings revealed the modus operandi of the above mentioned social media groups. The council revaled that the administrators of these groups entice candidates to part with money by paosting fake versions of questions, including past questions on social media. Moreover, they also operate by posting actual questions on paid for groups after receipt and openeing of questions paper packets at the exam centre. They additionally solve questions and post solutions on whatsapp and telgram groups.
According to the council, with the passing of the cyber security Act, 2020 (Act 1036), the prosecution of the operatives of these fraudulent groups wolud be facilitated. WAEC has therefore urged parents, religious leaders to and well-meaning people to in the society to jon the council in advising candidates to stay away from the aforementioned social media groups and focues on thier books.
