Free SHS Food Shortage: Initiate a compulsory school farm in SHS[Opinion]

The government and the Free Senior High School (FSHS) secretariat should take into consideration establishing a mandatory school farm in the various high schools, according to a concerned internet user by the name of Kwaku Nyarko Clement.

The idea was made in response to CHASS’s (Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools) threat to close schools due to a food crisis.

The concerned person claims that the majority of SHSs have large amounts of land that might be used for school farms to supply their schools. He went on to explain how designating Fridays for agriculturally initiated instructions may make the endeavor practicable.

In support of his recommendations, he said that the various schools might be tasked with cultivating plants and delicacies specific to their respective regions. The school will thereafter engage in intra-school trading.

Additionally, he has advocated for making agriculture a required subject rather than an elective. He added that by the inclusion of the Parents Association (PA) in the aforementioned ideas, food shortage difficulties might be managed.

Finally, he proposed that in order to stop the food shortages in the SHS, using the IGF or looking for sponsorship to launch the project, as well as MOE and MOFA-planting in schools for feeding, will all be very helpful.
