FSHS: There has not been any misappropriation of GH19,217,802.00-MOE
The Ministry of Education (MOE) has denied the misappropriation of funds meant to run FSHS following a report released by the Auditor-General Report for the year 2020 of 2019 Finacial Year. According to a portion of the report, the Free Senior High School (FSHS) Secretariate misapplied an amount of GH19,217,802.00.
A press statement signed by Felix A. Baidoo, the press secretary of the MOE, and sighted by Educandghana.net indicates that in 2019, the then Minister for Education approved the said amount to be borrowed from the Free SHS account to support urgent activities of the National Council for Curriculum &Assessnent (NACCA) and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The ministry also indicated that these activities were to be funded by Ghana Accountability and Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP), a Basic Education reform project funded by the World Bank. It further explained that GALOP at that time had not released the funds to NACCA and GES to implement the time-bound activities. NACCA and GES have since paid up the borrowed amount into the FSHS accounts, Full payment was made on 31/12/2020.
However, the ministry has made available copies of documentation covering the internal transaction are available for your review upon request anytime at the Ministry, Free SHS Secretariat, NACCA, and GES for perusal by the general public.
According to MOE, the office of the Auditor-General has been notified for the needful to be done as the Education Ministry denies the alleged misappropriation of GH19,217,802.00 as been peddled around.
