GES New directives for compliance for basic schools-Teachers must take note

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a new directive for compliance for all basic schools. As a result of the outbreak of the novel virus, the GES altered the academic calendar which affected the number of instructional hours in the basic schools.

A statement signed by the Denkyembour District Director of Education, Thomas More M. Tsorhe, and intercepted by indicates that the number of hours for KG to JHS has been extended hence the need for heads to comply with this new directive. The new instructional hours for KG to JHS is 8: 00 am to 3: 00 pm.

According to the statement, basic 4 pupils will write standard tests in numeracy and literacy in November 2021. It, however, reveals that teachers must use the English Language as a medium of instruction from KG to JHS with Ghanaian Language as a subject to be taught.

The statement also disclosed that the new JHS curriculum dubbed Common Core Curriculum (CCP) will commence in 2022. As the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) commences on Monday, 15th November 2021, the GES director, the 2021 candidates shall select six(6) Senior High Schools instead of five (5).
