GES teachers’ PDA, upgrading, Laptops and Promotion-Latest Update

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has clarified matters concerning the Ghana Education Service (GES) teacher’s upgrading, promotion, Professional Development Allowances (PDA), Payment of Responsibility Allowances, Changes in the JHS academic calendar, and the Distribution of Laptops to teachers under the ‘one teacher, one laptop’ initiative.

The updates shared below are excerpts of revelations that were made by the leadership of GNAT during an encounter on 16th October 2021 on the famous teachers’ show dubbed GNAT Hour.

UPGRADING

According to GNAT, measures have been put in place by the GES to upgrade all teachers with Bachelor of Education Certificates whether one is due or not. The fact is that the minimum professional qualification for teaching now is a Degree hence the need to upgrade all teachers who fall under this category.

PROMOTION

According to GNAT, almost all teachers who were promoted have been put on their right scale with or without arrears. However, a good number of teachers will be promoted this month (October).

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ALLOWANCE

Professional Development Allowance will be paid by the end of November 2021. However, all teachers will be deducted whether or not one gets hold of the laptop or not. The GNAT has indicated that a form will e made available later for teachers who would not patronize the laptop to fill and call for a refund.

RESPONSIBILITY ALLOWANCE

GNAT has revealed that payment of responsibility allowance might be paid soon if teachers have not been placed on a new scale. It has also said that all documents concerning responsibility allowances have been forwarded to the GES Headquarters for it to be worked on. The GES will soon open the portal to allow new entrants, that’s for those who are yet to fill the forms.

JHS ACADEMIC CALENDAR

According to GNAT, that they have been hinted that there will be changes in the JHS academic calendar. This is due to how stressful and detrimental it is to the health of teachers. More to the point, it is without allowances.
