GNAT Cancer Fund: Leaders must prove that they negotiate on our behalf-Teachers
Teachers have across the country and belong to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have insisted that they will resist any attempt made by the leadership of the Association to increase its cancer fund deduction.
Earlier this year, the General Secretary of the GNAT, Thomas Musah declared the intention of the association to increase the GNAT Cancer Fund from GH¢2 to GH¢5.
According to Thomas Musah, he explained that the cost of curing cancer is expensive hence the need for its members to agree with the new yet-to-be-effected increment.
However, the issue of increment became a necessity when the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) fully purchased the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre (SGMC).
Meanwhile, the members of the association have expressed their sentiments with regard to the decision of the GNAT leadership.
They have indicated that the leaders have no business deducting their meagre monies when they failed to negotiate for better percentages of salary Increment for 2021 and 2022.
“The monthly contribution to the Cancer Fund should remain at the GH¢ 2.00 until our leaders give us proof through verifiable outcomes that they negotiate on our behalf with us at heart. They have failed us with the 4% and 7% for this year and next year and should not try to increase it to the GH¢5.00. Our leaders in their own interest should be so minded”, some concerned teachers supported.
