The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo has indicated that if teachers in Ghana want to be millionaires, they will have to do other things in addition to the teaching. He said this during a meeting with the leadership of the various teacher unions. He also admitted that the conditions of service of teachers are not desirable.

“Without reliable teachers, our children cannot get properly natured and that is the service you to render to all of us, and we have to continue to be grateful to you for the sacrifice that is involved in teaching especially when you look at the conditions of service of teachers which are not all that desirable. Nevertheless, I don’t think there is anywhere in the world where people go into teaching expecting to become millionaires and make money- to do that, you do other things”, He said.

He further added that he is very grateful for the immense contribution and sacrifices made by teachers in the country and accepted the fact that teachers have made a tremendous contribution to bringing our country to where it is today. He once again reminded teachers that they chose to teach because they want to make a contribution to the welfare of society and they have done that very well. LISTEN TO THE AUDIO BELOW
