Social media users have trolled the Ghana Education Service after postponing the reopening date for the final year Senior High School students. A lot of social media users have lambasted the management of the GES for not delaying the dissemination of such a sensitive information. Parents have shown much disappointment in the management of GES because some of them have already seen their wards off to school whereas others started their journey to school today, Tuesday(6th April, 2021) in order to meet meet the reopening deadline.
Per the initial communique by the GES, Final year SHS students were supposed to report to school on the 7th of April, 2021 to continue preparation towards the 2021 West African Senior School Examination (WASSCE) which will be written between the months of September and October.
Abruptly, the service has postponed the reopening date to 5th of may 2021. According to GES, this decision was a proposal made by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and not an autonomous decision.
However, netizens have expressed their displeasure towards the decision taken by the management of GES. It has received a lot of reaction from all angles.
Individuals who reacted to the message perceived that politicization of education, lack of proper management at the GES, double-track, unavailability of food supplies, and many others are the cause of all the current anomalies the country’s education is experiencing.
