The National Teaching Council (NTC) is the body mandated by the Education Act 2008 (Act 778) section 9 to improve the professional standing and status of teachers and to license and register teachers in Ghana. The Council in a recent statement indicated that it will begin to generate and distribute the licenses to teachers starting Wednesday, 12th May 2021.
It revealed that licensing will begin in the Greater Accra Region and later proceed to other regions. According to the NTC, the registration on the Teacher Portal Ghana (TPG) is the first step for qualified teachers to be issued their licenses. After licensing of qualified teachers, NTC will proceed to register and issue temporary licenses to non-qualified teachers across the country.
However, it is expected that a detailed schedule in other regions will be communicated to the various Regional Education Directorates in due course.
