SHOCKING: Minister reveals the actual cost of teachers laptops
The Deputy Minister of Education, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour has revealed that the actual cost of the laptops to be distributed to teachers is GHS1,550.
Speaking to Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face at Citi news yesterday, Tuesday 7th September 2021, the Honourable Deputy Minister of Education indicated that the total cost of the local made Teacher Mate (TM1) is costing only GH¢1550 each. Which Teachers are to pay only 30% of the price. He explained that looking at the negotiation of the procurement of the laptops, the government is paying all the 100%. He further explained that the 30% percent to be paid by teachers is not from their salary but rather from their professional allowance. He reiterated that it will be deducted directly from this year’s Teachers’ professional allowance.
Meanwhile, the president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers NAGRAT, Mr. Angel Carbonu has stated that the total cost of each Laptop is GH¢1,831.47. Out of this, the Teacher is now going to pay GHc549.44 as 30% of the cost of the Laptop.
This statement from the NAGRAT president has received many reactions from teachers as they are confused amid all these Laptops prices. Some of the reactions monitored by Educandghana.net clearly show that their union leaders want to manipulate and inflate the cost of laptops. This is because there is a complete mismatch in the cost of the Laptop between the Teacher unions and the government. And the posture of the Teacher unions Leaders indicates that there is something fishy about the cost of the Laptop.
