The Ghanaian government has bowed to pressure from public sector employees and agreed to pay 15% in cost-of-living adjustments (COLA).

The government decided to start paying with effect from July 1, 2022. The Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) had already made an input for payment of salary for the month of July, according to the officials of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), so the inability to pay the COLA in the effective month.

The Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Bright Wireko Brobbey, has indicated that the 2022 COLA will be paid by the end of August and will include the arrears of July.

There is an assurance that COLA will be paid in the month of August 2022, according to the deputy minister.

Regarding the aforementioned, the government would have a difficult burden to bear because this sum will be paid on top of the salaries of all public sector workers. Other employees, in the meantime, will have their salaries adjusted as a result of being promoted from a lower rank to a higher rank.
